ETHNIC MINORITY IN NORTHERN VIETNAM

1. H'Mong ethnic group 


The Hmong ethnic group is one of the largest ethnic minorities in Northwest Vietnam. The H'Mong people are famous for their slash-and-burn farming techniques and sophisticated cloth weaving. The traditional costumes of the H'Mong people with elaborate hand-embroidered patterns and vibrant colors always captivate visitors. H'Mong festivals, such as Tet or Gau Tao festival, are occasions for people to gather together, sing and dance, expressing the beauty of traditional culture.

2. Dao ethnic group

The Dao people are also an ethnic minority present in many northern mountainous regions, including the Northwest. The Dao people are famous for their distinctive red costumes, intricately embroidered, and traditional hats imbued with national identity. The traditional medicine profession of the Red Dao people is one of their precious heritages, with esoteric remedies from nature.

3. Thai ethnic group 

The Thai people are a people with a long and rich culture. Thai people live mainly in valleys and along rivers. They are famous for their unique stilt houses and traditional dishes such as bamboo-tube rice and kitchen meat. Thai people also have famous Xoe dances and bamboo dances, showing the flexibility and sophistication of their culture.

4. Tay ethnic group 

Tay people often live in villages along rivers and streams. The Tay people are famous for then singing, luon singing, and romantic and profound folk songs. They also have a rich culinary background with specialties such as five-color sticky rice and grilled pork.

Ethnic minorities in Northwest Vietnam not only contribute to the cultural diversity of the country but also create unique and distinct features for this land.
